In a letter today, Madeline Moyer worries that the Georgia Secretary of States Office posts, on its Web site, the home address of all professionals who register with the state.
Generally, the office has been good about informing the public about people and agencies it oversees. Moyer rightly points out pitfalls of such disclosure.
But another reader, Allan Levene, finds a different complaint with the office - namely, that it doesnt disclose enough.
Levene has written to state Rep. Ben Harbin, pointing out that the Secretary of States Office wont disclose any information about complaints or discipline of those who are licensed with the state.

In other words, Levene writes, if there is a rogue "professional, ... the public has no right whatsoever to find out who that is.
There has to be a middle ground here between listing professionals home addresses for everyone from kooks to clever marketers, while slamming the door shut on information when those same professionals face consumer complaints.
Harbin and fellow lawmakers should weigh in on this debate.
