The Evans High School band will participate in the National Adjudicators Invitational, an event only open to groups which have been recognized for exceptional achievement as a performing group.
The band was nominated by David Shaffer of Miami University. Shaffer was commissioned by Evans High to compose Excalibur: Legend of the Sword, which made its debut last year at the band's spring concert.
The band will perform April 25-26 in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Grand National Adjudicators Invitational.
The 70 members of Evans High's Wind Ensemble I, the school's top-level concert band, will perform three pieces at the festival, Evans High Band Director Richard Brasco said.

"We'll be in competition with bands from across the United States. And while they say it's not a competition, they do pick one grand national band," he said.
It will be the last time the retiring band director takes the Evans High band to competition. About 30 to 40 other bands are expected to participate. Performances will be judged and rated on a national rating standard of superior, excellent and good.
The National Adjudicators Invitational is sponsored by Dixie Classic Festivals, a professional education organization for instrumental music groups. It's an opportunity for high school bands to perform in major concert halls before nationally known composers and university directors.
