Optimist Club contest
The Optimist Club of Martinez-Evans is holding a contest designed for young people who are deaf or partially deaf to present thoughts in a publicforum titled United We Stand in Opinion.
The contest is open to young people through 12th grade who are recognized by the school as deaf or partially deaf. The winner will receive a $1,500 college scholarship.

Dinner performance
Stage III, Columbia County's community theater, will perform a dinner presentation of The Dinner Party by Neil Simon Thursday through Sunday at the Jewish Community Center.
Tickets to the evening performances cost $25 and the Sunday matinee costs $15 per person. For reservations please call the community center at 228-3636.

The Columbia County Retired Educators will meet at Charlie B's at noon Tuesday, Jan. 28, for the bimonthly Dutch treat meeting.

Stevens Creek Elementary offering orientation
Stevens Creek Elementary School will hold an orientation program from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, for parents who will have children attending the school in the 2003-2004 school year.
The program will consist of a brief overview of the kindergarten curriculum, a tour of classrooms and a question-and-answer period. Information about registration requirements and kindergarten supplies will be provided.

Zimbabwe presentation scheduled
The United Methodist Women of Martinez United Methodist Church will hold a presentation on Zimbabwe, presented by Lola Parks and Ida James, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the church at 3614 Washington Road, Martinez.
Registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall with light refreshments. A light lunch will be provided for those who care to stay and share in fellowship. Reservations for lunch need to be made by Wednesday, Jan. 22.
