Sheriff goes after "shine"

Sheriff Norris and Deputy Story went to the Fountain Camp Ground section Sunday and brought to jail Ernest Howard, charged with possessing liquor. Howard threw his bottle containing a small quantity away when the officers approached, but did not break the bottle, and the evidence was saved. He gave bond.

On the same trip the officers got three gallons of shine belonging to General Stevens, but he being a good marathon runner, made his getaway.

General Stevens came into Sheriff Norris' headquarters Monday and gave up, giving bond for his appearance at court.

Harlem team wins

On last Friday night, a team of Harlem boys journeyed to Augusta to meet the Georgia Power Company team in a basketball game on the Catholic High School floor.

The game was fast and cleanly played and ended with the Harlem team on the long end of a 34 to 11 score. The play of the whole Harlem was good considering the fact the boys had not played together in three years and that the team played the whole game without a substitution.

The team was composed of Russell Clary and Hilliard Anderson, forwards; Homer Sharp, center; and Robert Cook and Samilee Anderson, guards. William Davisson acted as referee.

Hatcher honored

A deserved recognition of ability and loyalty in office was shown by Harlem masons, when Ernest W. Hatcher, was presented with a beautiful ring. While the ring bears the mystic symbols, Hatcher's work as secretary of the Harlem lodge has been most plain and practical and reliable through his long tenure of office. This is not peculiar to this position: Hatcher is notably esteemed and popular in every relationship in the community.
