Martinez fire meeting

The Martinez Volunteer Fire Department's annual meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Washington Road headquarters. At the meeting, the 2002 audit and 2003 budget will be presented and the annual election of trustees. A question and answer session will be after the business session.

Fifth grade salutes MLK

The fifth grade class of Brookwood Elementary School will perform I Remember Martin Luther King Jr., a tribute to the slain civil rights leader, at 1:45, 2:30 and 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13 and a tour at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 15.

Church offering Fit 4

Fit 4 weight loss and nutrition class will be offered at Wesley United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. tonight through March 23. The Fit 4 exercise and fitness class will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays from Jan. 8 through March 26 at the church on North Belair Road.

Fit 4 stands for fitness in four areas of life: heart, soul, mind and strength. It teaches the balanced approach to total health.

A Taste for Life

A weight management program, A Taste for Life, teaches how to live a balanced healthy life from a Christian perspective. The 13-week session will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. beginning Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church on North Belair Road.

Dinner performance

Stage III - Columbia County's Community Theater - will be performing a dinner presentation of The Dinner Party by Neil Simon on Jan. 16-19 at the Jewish Community Center.

Tickets to the evening performances costs $25 and the Sunday matinee costs $15 per person. For reservations, call the community center at 228-3636.

Boy scout troop meeting changed

Boy Scout Troop 16 now will meet at 7:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. on Mondays at the Church of Our Savior on Columbia Road.

Compassionate Friends meeting site changed

The Columbia County Chapter of the Compassionate Friends meeting place has moved to Marvin United Methodist Church, 4400 Wheeler Road, Martinez.

Meetings are the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Compassionate Friends is a support group for those who have suffered the death of a child, grandchild, sister or brother.

Forestry advice

The Georgia Forestry Commission is advising residents whether their homes are at risk of woods or brush fires. The free service is particularly aimed at rural residents.
