Columnist 'captured a reality' on discrimination

Barbara Seaborns Nov. 10 column, Tyranny of Tolerance sounded familiar. I remembered a book published in 1957 that had an almost cult-like following.

The world described in the novel was one which had become so intolerant of any form of discrimination that only those who could claim the pitiful state of being incompetent were rewarded. Increasingly, those having special skills dropped out and secluded themselves away from the population centers where those who had whined their way to the top made ludicrous decisions to the detriment of all.

The book made a point which, at the time, seemed over the top. During the last 10 to 15 years, however, I have found myself repeating its title, which was essentially a mantra in the novel - Atlas Shrugged!

Once again, Barbara Seaborn has captured a reality in a few well-chosen words. It took Ayn Rand almost 1200 pages to say it through fiction.
