Events offer chance to dine with Santa, Grinch

For those who like a little sour with their sweet during the holiday season, the Columbia County Recreation Department will play host for its Breakfast with Santa followed by Lunch with the Grinch on Saturday.

The event takes place at the Patriots Park Gymnasium with Santa's breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. and Grinch's lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m.

"This is a great opportunity for parents to leave their children with us while they get some last-minute shopping done or run some errands," said Beth Roberson, the special events coordinator for Columbia County Recreation and Leisure Services. "They know they can leave them here and we'll keep them entertained and safe."

The cost of the event is $5 per child, per meal. The fee includes food, a picture with Santa and the Grinch and a movie after breakfast and lunch. The breakfast movie will be The Santa Clause starring Tim Allen and the lunch movie will be Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey.

"... I think it's really neat," Roberson said. "There are many opportunities to have your picture taken with Santa, but a picture with the Grinch is a unique opportunity."

Children attending the events are encouraged to dress as their favorite "Who" from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The best-dressed Who will win free admission to either the breakfast or the lunch and a stocking full of treats.

"None of the kids have to worry about being afraid of the Grinch," Roberson said. "We all know, in the end, the Grinch has a big heart. He may play a couple of tricks on Santa, but he's definitely not bad."

Beyond Santa and the Grinch, the county recreation department will hold a Holiday Craft Party for children from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 23 at the Patriots Park Gym. The fee is $5 per child.

Pre-registration is required for all of the events. Checks should be made payable to: Columbia County Recreation Department, Attn. Special Events, P.O. Box 498, Evans, GA 30809.
