"It's been a great activity for the kids because it's something they can do themselves just by using the materials before them and following directions," said Michelle Riddle, the Northwood social director and mother of Tyler, 4, and Cassidy, 20 months. "They can make a picture frame, snowflakes or a Star of David and then put it on their tree or hang it on their refrigerator."
About 25 neighborhood children of all ages attended the first ever ornament party at the gazebo of Northwood's recreational area. The event also gave Northwood children the opportunity to snack and to play with their neighbors.
"It was fun because we got to make ornaments and then we got refreshments," said Jennifer Warnock, 8.
The community-oriented neighborhood will hold another holiday-themed bonfire at 6 p.m. Friday.
"We're going to roast marshmallows, make s'mores, cook hot dogs and drink hot chocolate," Riddle said. "Hopefully, we can get the neighborhood excited about that as well."
