GAS swimming news
Columbia County residents Tom Northcutt and George Patton set new Georgia State Masters Swimming records while competing with Greater Augusta Swimming in the Dixie Zone Championships in Anderson, S.C. Northcutt, swimming in the 35-39 age group, set a record in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 5:04.93. Patton set records in the 100- and 200-meter individual medley events (1:08.06/2:29.31) in the 40-44 age group.
Also, several county swimmers fared well and helped GAS place second in the Aiken-Augusta Fall Invitational at Augusta Aquatics Center.
In the 8-and-under division, Jacob Burr placed third in the 25-yard butterfly (:20.20).
In the 11-12 boys, John Richards won the 50-yard breaststroke (:35.14) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:11.53) events, was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.78), and added thirds in both the 50-yard backstroke (:34.18) and 50-yard butterfly (:31.92); Josh Patton placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.59); and, Matt Russell had third place finishes in the 50-yard breaststroke (:36.91) and 100-yard individual medley (1:12.58).
Northcutt, meanwhile, was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.23) in his age division at the ASL Fall Invitational.
