Race shouldn't be part of criticism of mayor

Editor:

The News-Times strongly worded opinions Nov. 17 were eye-openers for sure.

To read of the alleged illegal blackmail of the mayor of Washington, Ga., was disturbing, but all the more so because of the editorials unnecessary addition of interracial to the description of this illicit, interracial affair with (Cassandra) Willis.

Being of another race (than Mayor Frank Thomas) is not a crime, nor should it have been of any interest (or commented on) to the issue at hand.

(Editors note: The term interracial was used to describe the affair because it is part of the basis of the alleged blackmail in the case - that Mayor Thomas would be exposed to his Washington constituents for having an affair with a black woman.)
