Veterans celebration
Columbia County's Veteran's Day Bar-B-Que Cookoff will be held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Admission to the event costs $3 and children under age 6 are admitted free. The cookoff is part of the Memphis in May Sanctioned Contest Network. Proceeds from the cookoff will benefit the Columbia County Recreation Department.
Also, the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will be on display from Thursday until Sunday at the fairgrounds on Columbia Road.

Time capsule help
The Columbia County Board of Commissioners is asking residents to donate items for a time capsule that will be buried on the grounds of the county's new Justice Center in Evans.
Items will be accepted through Friday and can be anything that signifies the year 2002 in Columbia County. To make a donation to the time capsule, call County Project Coordinator Marilyn Heuer at the county commissioners office at 868-3379.
Parade participants needed
The Columbia County Merchants Association's annual Christmas Parade will be Dec. 1. Participants are being sought, and may contact Ruby Lane at 863-0785 for applications. The deadline for entries is Nov. 20.
County choral society honoring God and country
The Columbia County Choral Society will present God and Country, a musical tribute to America's Heroes and First Responders at 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Stevens Creek Community Church, 600 Stevens Creek Road, Martinez.
The performance will feature a guest performance by the Brass Ensemble of First Baptist Church of North Augusta.
Tickets cost $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Admission is free for first responders, fire, police, military, Emergency medical technicians, Red Cross workers and other emergency service personnel with badge or identification. Oakey Grove recognizing deaconess anniversary
Oakey Grove Baptist Church will recognize its deaconess anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday with special guest James Hogan, pastor of New Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Augusta.

Winter clothing drive
North Harlem Elementary will be collecting new mittens, gloves, scarves, and hats for deserving individuals and families. If you would like to donate to our clothing drive, please drop your items off at North Harlem Elementary.
Heavenly Touch to perform
Heavenly Touch, a quartet, will perform gospel music at 7 p.m. Sunday at Harlem Baptist Church,at Georgia Highway 221's intersection with U.S. Highway 278.
The concert is free and open to the public. A love offering will be taken.
