The Columbia County Recreation Department and the Recreation Advisory Board is taking nominations for the Columbia County Recreation and Leisure Services Department Hall of Fame.

Nominations are due to the county's Recreation Advisory Board by Monday and must include a typed biography of the individual, group or business. The biographies should be in size-12 font and double-spaced.

Here are the criteria for nomination:

Enshrinement is limited to two individuals, groups or businesses per year.

Nominees must have been involved with the Recreation & Leisure Services Department programs for at least four years.

Nominees must have made an impact on the program, while playing, coaching or working with the department.

Nominees must have participated within the program the required time and then gone on to establish themselves in an outstanding way.

A business or group must have had a direct impact on a specific program or the department for at least five consecutive years.

A meritorious nomination may be made with the approval of the Recreation Advisory Board or Board of Commissioners.

Greenbrier festival

Parade participants needed

The Columbia County Merchants Association's annual Christmas Parade will be Dec. 1. Participants are being sought, and may contact Ruby Lane at 863-0785 for applications. The deadline for entries is Nov. 20.

Evans band fruit sale

The Evans High School Marching Band is holding their annual fruit sale through Nov. 8 as a fund-raiser.

Indian River oranges cost $13 per case and grapefruit cost $11 per case.

Adoption day

Columbia County Care and Control will hold a special pet adoption from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, at at 6337 Columbia Road, Appling.

Only one pet can be adopted per family and they must be spayed or neutered in accordance with regular adoption policies. Pets will be adopted for the discounted price of $10.

Oakey Grove celebrating 112 years

Oakey Grove Baptist Church is celebrating its 112th church anniversary at 2 p.m. Nov. 3, with the Rev. Steven Berry of New Exodus Missionary Baptist Church, Augusta, as special guest.
