A public hearing on the zoning proposals has been set for Dec. 12.
"This will affect a lot of schools so we want to be sure there is plenty of notification so we can get public input on this," said Superintendent Tommy Price.
The new elementary school is expected to relieve overcrowding at Martinez, Brookwood, Westmont and Bel Air elementary schools.
Price said he hopes to have the board's final approval of a new zone for the school by Jan. 14. A new principal for the school is expected to be named by Dec. 10.
H.G. Reynolds Construction Co. is building the $5.9 million school, which will have the same floor plan as Greenbrier and Euchee Creek elementary schools. The school will have 40 classrooms with the capacity to house 400 to 850 pupils, Price said.
Construction began in March and the school is on target to open for the 2003-2004 school year.
