The local Wendy's Heisman winners are:
Harlem High School's Ray Fulcher
Harlem High School's Jillian Crawford
Greenbrier High School's Daniel Jordan
Greenbrier High School's Katie Sutherland
Principals, guidance counselors and coaches from every high school in the United States were asked to nominate one male and one female athlete who best exemplify the program criteria.
Wendy's High School Heisman Program nominees are judged equally in three different areas: academics, athletics and community service. Once nominees reach the state winner level, a panel of judges from the worlds of sports, academia and business review the nomination forms and vote on the students who will then reach the national finalist and national winner levels.
In mid-November, the judging panel selects 12 National Finalists - one male and one female from each of six geographical regions. These students will be invited to a national awards banquet Dec. 13 in New York City, and their high schools will receive $1,000 in their name.
Two National Award Winners, one male and one female, will be selected from the 12 National Finalists and honored during ESPN's telecast of the college Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation. Also, each National Winner receives a Wendy's High School Heisman trophy and a $2,500 award for their high school.
