Swimmer honored
Greater Augusta Swimming team members Peter Caruana and Sarah Gerstein were recently named by USA Swimming as Academic All-Americans for the 2001-02 school year. In order to earn this prestigious honor, swimmers must be in the 10th, 11th or 12th grades; have competed that year at the Senior National, U.S. Open or Sectional Championship level; and, have maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA in core courses. This is the second All-American Award for Caruana, a Lakeside High School student, and the first for Gerstein, who attends Augusta Preparatory Day School.
Sports Jamboree
To celebrate the opening of the LifeCenter at Wesley United Methodist Church, there will be a Grand Opening Sports Jamboree from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be games such as the Basketball Hot Shot and Volleyball Target Spike for adults and children of all ages There will be prizes for all children, and also refreshments. Additionally, there will be fingerprinting courtesy of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, and the Martinez Fire Department will have fire safety lessons in its House of Smoke.
