Editor:
It has come to my attention that PSATs are being given at Harlem High School this week. I understand after-school classes were offered to prepare students for the PSAT. These classes started in early September. Many students, including those preparing for college, were not aware that these classes were offered until the first week of October.
I would like to know what criteria is used to decide which students should have the benefit of these after-school classes. I would like to know who decides which students should have this advantage.
While Harlem High School may not be the highest-ranking high school in the county, many of the students there are intelligent, ambitious, and hope to go on to higher education. Was this due to a lack of communication? If so, this needs to be corrected immediately. I would appreciate an explanation of this situation.
I will add that I hear firsthand compliments of various teachers. They not only provide a setting for education but add much to enrich our children's lives.
