Editor:
You have to love the way people throw the word intolerant around, especially when it supports their own opinion. Frankly, Id rather hang out my stupidity (as Bill Quattlebaum called it in his letter, Sept. 29) for all to see than to fly a Confederate flag or support another Confederate monument, because so many people see those as some of the ultimate emblems of intolerance and hate.
My only question is, especially given that any symbol of the Confederacy perpetuates strife and racism, why is honoring Confederate soldiers more important than honoring those who fought in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, etc?
By the way, it is the intolerant person who, for lack of better words and understanding, must resort to using words like stupidity and ignorance.
