Select Soccer home schedule this weekend at Patriots Park

Saturday: Under-11 Boys vs. Atlanta Express, 12:30 p.m. Green Field; Under-15 Boys vs. Fire Black, 12:30 p.m. Yellow Field; Under-13 Boys vs. Excell Scorpions, 2 p.m. Green Field; Under-16 Boys vs. Santos Blue, 2:30 p.m. Yellow Field.

Sunday: Under-17 Boys vs. Freedom Bronze, noon Yellow Field; Under-19 Girls vs. Georgia FC 85 Gold, 2 p.m. Yellow Field; Under-19 Boys vs. Coastal Georgia Breakers, 4 p.m. Yellow Field.

Augusta Prep homecoming

Augusta Preparatory Day School's Homecoming 2002 festivities will be Friday and Saturday at the Flowing Wells Road campus.

In addition to all-day concessions, activities are scheduled as follows:

Friday - Lower School/Middle school Cheerleading Clinic (3:30-5:30 p.m.); Middle School Homecoming Dance (7:30-10 p.m., Goodwin Commons).

Saturday - Middle School girls volleyball, B Team vs. Alleluia (8 a.m.) and A Team vs. Alleluia (9 a.m.); Middle School Cross Country Invitational, girls 9 a.m., boys 9:30 a.m.); Varsity Cross Country Invitational (girls 10 a.m., boys 10:30 a.m.); Varsity girls volleyball, JV vs. Alleluia (10:30 a.m.), Varsity vs. Alleluia (noon), Varsity vs. North Cobb (3 p.m.); Kids Mega Event, featuring fun inflatables (noon to 5 p.m.); Varsity soccer vs. First Presbyterian Day School (2:30 p.m., with a cheerleading clinic performance at halftime); All-school Family Barbecue Picnic (5-7 p.m., tickets to be reserved in advance, $5 per person, children under 5 free) featuring live entertainment and a cake race for kids ages five to 10; Upper School Homecoming Dance (8-11 p.m., Goodwin Commons); Alumni Social (7:30 p.m. at the Pizza Joint, Broad Street).

Volleyball players needed

The Augusta Junior Olympic Volleyball Club is open to experienced players of middle- and high-school age. There is an orientation meeting Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Augusta Preparatory Day School library (285 Flowing Wells Rd., Martinez). A $25 pre-registration fee is required for November tryouts. Grovetown races

The engines will be revving in Columbia County this weekend, as Gordon Park Speedway in Grovetown will have a two-day racing event Friday and Saturday.

The gates open at 5 p.m. both days, with racing at 8 p.m. Grandstand tickets for Friday cost $5 (6 and under free); Saturday grandstand tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for ages 7 to 12 (6 and under free).

Pits tickets for Friday cost $10 (adults) and $5 (7-12). Saturday pits tickets cost $25 (adults) and $10 (7-12). Children ages 6 and under are admitted free both nights.

Feature races are Hobby ($2,000 first prize), Stock V-8 Pure Street ($800), Super Street ($1,000) and Stock 4 and Modified 4 ($800).
