Brookwood Elementary fifth-graders write "What Sept. 11 Means to Me"

Red, white and blue;

Colors that are so true.

They wave above us

Beautiful and bright

Until day becomes night.

Some people don't like the U.S.A.

But they can just go their separate way.

We Witnessed America Fall

Sept. 11 was not good at all,

I and everyone witnessed America fall.

You were brave as you walked through the rubble,

Knowing you had to save the people in trouble.

This is in memory of the people who died;

This is in memory of the people who tried.

I know we will be free,

Thank you heroes for fighting for me.

This is for the heroes who fought for America,

Time and time again,

This is for the heroes who believe that we can win.

Thank you, thank you all,

This is for the Americans who witnessed America fall.

- Jamie Hatcher

They thought they could kill the American spirit,

But instead they woke it up.

They thought they could stop our pride,

But instead they made us prouder.

They thought they could stop us from loving,

But instead that made us love each other even more.

They thought they could tear our lives apart,

But instead they brought us closer together.

They thought they could hurt us,

But instead they made us stronger.
