The following accounts were taken from reports filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's office.

Paying Double

An Evans woman offered to pay double for several items after first attempting to steal them.

According to the report, Kathleen Joyce Conlon, 45, walked into the Kroger on Columbia Road and put several items into her shopping cart, including beer, dog food and cleaning supplies.

Store manager Bruce Edward Cooper, 45, told officers Conlon walked to the register with the items and paid for only three of them. The employee working the counter asked Conlon if she had paid for the rest and was told she had.

Conlon then left the store without paying for the rest of her items but was stopped by Cooper in the parking lot. The reporting deputy wrote Conlon apologized for taking the items and offered to pay double for the stolen goods and to "just get a warning."

The report shows Conlon was taken into custody and an arrest warrant was issued against her.

Stolen Shot Glass

An Appling woman said a picture of Dale Earnhardt was stolen along with a frosted-colored shot glass that has a skull on it and four 15-inch aluminum rims.

The report states the front door to Jennifer Yvonne Jones' mobile home was forced open. But, because the door had been pryed open several times by residents of the home, the deputy wrote, an investigator was not called to the scene.

Donation taken

A McDonald House Donation box was stolen earlier this week.

Eugene Joseph, the manager of the McDonalds at 3804 Washington Road, said someone cut the small padlock to the box sometime between closing time Sept. 2 and opening time Sept. 3. Joseph estimated $30 has been taken.
