Law enforcement training to begin again

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is holding a Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy beginning Sept. 12. The free nine-week course is held each Thursday evening and is open to county residents 18 or older. To sign up or for more information, call Capt. Jim March at (706) 541-4027.

Kids Helping Kids speaker

The Junior Auxiliary and Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 192, Evans, will hold a family-friendly program for parents and children at 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday at 1 Legion Drive off Owens and Washington roads.

Columbia County Sheriff's Office Deputy Roxanne Lewis will speak to children regarding safety from predatory kidnapping and child molestation, among other subjects.

All parents are invited. Hot dogs, chips, cookies, soda, games and prizes will be furnished by the auxiliary. For directions or further information, call (706) 863-8728.

Bible Cathedral kicks off AWANA

Bible Cathedral, a local nondenominational congregation of more than 100 members, is kicking off the first year of AWANA at 7 p.m. today, at the church at 1116 Furys Ferry Road, Evans. The public is invited.

AWANA, Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed, is an international Christian ministry based on Timothy 2:15 and has a goal of "reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and training them to serve Him."

The AWANA club is open to all children from age 3 through sixth grade. For more information, call the church at (706) 863-7090.

Fall camp set

The fall camp meeting at the White Oak United Methodist Campground will take place Sept. 13-15 beginning with a 7 p.m. Friday service.

The speaker for the weekend will be the Rev. Gary Demore, of Flippen United Methodist Church in McDonough. Burt Hopper will lead an 8:30 a.m. watch on the Asbury Trail on Saturday and, at 11 a.m., the Wesley Foundation Praise Band from Georgia College and State University will perform.

The public is invited the services including one 7 p.m. Saturday and another at 11 a.m. Sunday. For more information, call Mike Wall at (706) 595-5122.

Red Cross offering instructor training

The Augusta Red Cross will offer the First Aid/CPR/AED instructor course from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 16-19. Course pre-requisites include basic adult, infant and child CPR and first aid.

All courses are taught at the Red Cross office at 1322 Ellis St., Augusta.
