Grandma's Delight dinner

The Ladies Auxiliary of Post 192, Evans, will hold a Grandma's Delight dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Hall on Legion Drive off Owens Road.

All foods will be prepared from recipes your grandmothers fixed when you were young, to bring back childhood memories, and from members' native lands. Dinner will cost $5 per plate. Take-out orders are available.

Kids Helping Kids speaker

The Junior Auxiliary and Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 192, Evans, will hold a family-friendly program for parents and children at 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday at Legion Drive off Owens Road.

Columbia County Sheriff's Office Deputy Roxanne Lewis will speak to children regarding safety from predatory kidnapping and child molestation among other subjects.

All parents are invited. Hot dogs, chips, cookies, soda, games and prizes will be furnished by the auxiliary. For directions or further information, call (706) 863-8728.

Landfill closed for holidays

The Baker Place Road Landfill was closed Saturday for Labor Day, but will reopen Monday at 6 a.m. For questions or concerns, call Don Bartles, manager of the Solid Waste Management Department at (706) 868-3366.

Law enforcement training to begin again

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is holding a Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy beginning Sept. 12. The free nine-week course is each Thursday evening and is open to county residents 18 and older. To sign up or for more information, call Capt. Jim Marsh at (706) 541-4027.

Bible Cathedral kicks off AWANA

Bible Cathedral, a local nondenominational congregation of more than 100 members is kicking off the first year of AWANA at 7 p.m. Sept. 4, at the church at 1116 Furys Ferry Road, Evans. The public is invited.

AWANA, Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, is an international Christian ministry based on Timothy 2:15 and has a goal of "reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and training them to serve Him."

The AWANA club is open to children from age 3 to those in the sixth grade. For more information, call the church at (706) 863-7090.
