GAS tryouts

Greater Augusta Swimming will be hosting tryouts for interested swimmers on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Augusta Aquatics Center. Attendance on all three days is required to ensure a fair opportunity for coaches and athletes to work together to help make the correct placement decisions. Soccer coaching clinic

TST will sponsor a free soccer coaching clinic at the Patriots Park soccer complex Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. The clinic is structured toward the recreation-level coach. For more information, contact TST at www.tstsoccer.com, or call 294-5033.

Softball players needed

The Martinez-Evans Sting fastpitch softball team has a limited number of openings for girls who will be 12 years old or younger on Jan. 1, 2003. The team will compete in travel tournament play this fall, and next spring and summer. Interested high-caliber players with a positive attitude should call 868-9614 to schedule a tryout.

Fall tennis

USA Team Tennis will hold registration Sept. 7 at Petersburg Racquet Club for its Fall Junior Tennis League. Sign-up times are from 9 a.m. to noon. Players and captains can register; if you are not already on a team, you may register as an individual, and will be placed on one.

League play begins Sept. 22 and runs through November. All matches are on Sundays at 2 p.m. Age groups include 10-and-under; 12-and-under, 14-and-under, and 14-and-over.

The cost is $12 for a League fee, which pays for court fees and a player T-shirt. A USTA membership costs $13. If you do not have a USTA membership, you can register online at www.usta.com and receive immediate confirmation and a membership number; also, players can call the USTA at 1-800-990-8782 and they will fax your confirmation and membership number.
