All-Star team earns World Series title

The Columbia County Recreation Department Dixie Boys All-Star baseball team had a summer to remember, and by bringing home state and World Series titles in Dixie's 13-14 age division, the squad etched its name in local baseball history.
With the World Series victory, Team Georgia became the 10th Columbia County All-Star squad to earn a Dixie League crown. Seven members of the team, along with manager Angel Torres, went all the way in Dixie Youth play in 2000.
In July, Columbia County dominated play in the Dixie Boys state tournament to gain a berth in the 12-team World Series in Euless, Texas. The All-Stars captured the championship with an extra-inning victory in the finals earlier this month.
