Martinez Firefighters hitting the street
Martinez Firefighters will be on the streets with their boots collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Labor Day weekend, Friday through Sunday.
They will be collecting at the following Columbia County locations: Bi-Lo on Columbia Road, Lowe's on Bobby Jones Expressway, K-Mart on Washington Road, Kroger on Washington Road and Columbia Road, Wal-Mart Supercenter in Evans, Food Lion on Belair Road and Old Petersburg Road.
Of every dollar raised, 79 cents stays in this area to help local patients with neuromuscular diseases.
Law enforcement training to begin again
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is holding a Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy beginning Sept. 12. The free 9-week course is held each Thursday evening and it open to county residents 18 and older.
Participants will be given an insight to the everyday operations of the sheriff's office as well as firearms training, which includes live fire on the shooting range.
