Scholarship pageant approaching
The 2003 Miss Columbia County Fair Scholarship Pageant will be held Sept. 21. The pageant is for single ladies age 17-24 and includes swimsuit, evening gown and talent divisions.
The winner goes on to represent Columbia County in Atlanta in January and, if she wins there, to Miss Georgia pageant in June 2003.

Fall camp set
The fall camp meeting at the White Oak United Methodist Campground will take place Sept. 13-15 beginning with a 7 p.m. Friday service.

Burt Hopper will lead an 8:30 a.m. morning watch on the Asbury Trail on Saturday and at 11 a.m., the Wesley Foundation Praise Band from Georgie College and State University will perform.

Business skills meeting scheduled
The Institute of Management Accountants, Augusta chapter, holds educational luncheons on the fourth Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be Sept. 26.

Boys and Girls Club Classic registration open
Registration is open for the 2002 Boys and Girls Club Golf Classic to be held Oct. 7 at Woodside Plantation Country Club. Deadline for registration is Monday, Sept. 2 and entry fee is $600 per team.
Since 1995, the E-Z-GO golf tournament has raised over $425,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Augusta. The money is used for facility improvements and expansions, equipment purchases and to support ongoing programs.

Bible Cathedral kicks off AWANA
Bible Cathedral, a local non-denominational congregation of over 100 members is kicking off the first year of AWANA at 7 p.m. Sept. 4, at the church at 1116 Fury's Ferry Road, Evans. The public is invited to attend.
AWANA, Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed, is an international Christian ministry based on Timothy 2:15 and has a goal of "reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and training them to serve Him."

Look Good...Feel Better
The American Cancer Society is offering Look Good...Feel Better, a national program to help women undergoing cancer treatment deal with appearance related side effects. Sessions are conducted by volunteer cosmetologists. The program is free.

I Can Cope
The American Cancer Society will offer it's quarterly series, I Can Cope, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3. for those diagnosed with cancer and their family and friends.Sessions address a variety of topics including cancer diagnosis, cancer treatments, side effects, nutrition, exercise and stress management.
Each 2-hour session begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held on four consecutive Tuesday evenings at Warren Baptist Church, 3202 Washington Road. Admission is free but registration is encouraged. Refreshments and child care are provided.

Cat Show

House numbers encouraged
The Columbia County Planning and Development office is encouraging residents to ensure that their homes have their street address numbers plainly visible from the street so that emergency personnel can find the correct address.
House numbers should be at least 3 inches tall, mounted on a mailbox, be visible from both directions of the road and should not be hidden by weeds or flowers.

Miss Classic South
The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce wants to acknowledge the area's young ladies that are tomorrow's leaders. The Columbia County Chapter of the Compassionate Friends meeting place has moved to Marvin United Methodist Church, 4400 Wheeler Road, Martinez.

Mothers' Morning Out program begins registration
The Vineyard Preschool and Mothers Morning-out Program is now accepting registration for the fall 2002 school year program.
The program, which is sponsored by the Vineyard Church of Augusta, is available Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The program is for children one year through five years of age.
The program is also accepting applications for the summer camp program, Kids Zone. This program is open weekly Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Registration set for Mother's Day Out
The Mother's Day Out program at West Acres Baptist Church is taking registration for the fall and summer programs.

Volunteers needed
The Court Appointed Special Advocate Program is looking for volunteers age 21 and older to help advocate for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system.

Historical donations needed

The Greater Augusta Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors will be holding its tenth annual "Christmas for Charities" golf tournament at the Forest Hills Golf Club on Thursday. The entry fee is $60 per person. The fee includes lunch, which will be served at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, as well as to the golfer with the longest drive and to the golfer closest to the pin.
