Common sense needed for future leadership

Here we go again. Election season is upon us. Its the same trump card every time - the children, the children, the children. Exactly what do they need? Their own personal Columbia County Disney World or Taj Mahal? Having lived in Columbia County for more years than my choice of candidates combined, I beg to differ.

Our children (mine for more than 25 years) have been the benefactors of the finest school system, recreation facilities and police protection in the CSRA, if not in the state. Do we continue to demand discipline from our government, or do we return parenting to the home? How much of our tax dollars do we continue to spend on bigger and better to appease our newfound young dictators?

Granted, there are a few problems that need to be addressed for our youth. They are already on the table, and I have no doubt will be dealt with. This county has never left its youth behind, and never will under our current plans.

As concerned parents, we can protect our childrens future by addressing the real issues: personal property zoning, tax issues (including water), industry control, and to quote all candidates, protect our quality of life.

Come on, people; Do we continue to buy silver spoons and smell diapers and allow industry to run our county? Or do we buy shovels and clear the air of smoke from our checkbooks?
