Matches to raise funds for tennis programs

Petersburg Racquet Club will play host to a tennis fund-raiser Friday through Sunday to benefit the Augusta State University tennis program. The fun-filled weekend will feature numerous events for area tennis enthusiasts.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, there will be a doubles match that will run for 48 consecutive hours. Local players and ASU players will team up in the marathon, with contributions based on a per-hour pledge. For instance, a 25 cent pledge would result in a $12 donation.

On Saturday, free lessons will be provided for inexperienced or rusty players - junior lessons (18 and under) are from 9-10:15 a.m., and adults are from 10:30-noon. Saturday afternoon there will be a college-amateur round robin, where local players can bid to have the opportunity to play with an ASU athlete.

On Sunday, there will be a 4.5 and over men's play day for any CSRA player with a 4.5 or better USTA rating. There is no charge for this event, but donations are welcome.

PRC's objective for the fund-raising event is to encourage the private sector to have a substantial impact upon the success of an intercollegiate sport. More money for travel, recruiting, equipment and uniforms are all ways to make playing tennis at Augusta State more attractive.
