From the field to the front

Columbia County natives appear on cover of college's media guide

Posted: Wednesday, August 07, 2002

It's not Sports Illustrated, but Chris Dickerson and Ryan Bowers, both of Columbia County, have found themselves on the cover of a magazine.

The two Presbyterian College football players - and Columbia County high school products - are joined by six teammates for an all senior cover of the school's football media guide.

Bowers, a Greenbrier product, plays strong safety for The Blue Hose and is a returning starter. The media guide says Powers has a total of six interceptions during his career and has started several games since joining the team in 1999.

Bower's 2001 season saw him finish fourth in team tackles with 85 and second in interceptions with four.

Bowers, a political science major, enters this season as a preseason second team all conference pick at defensive back, according to the media guide.

Dickerson, from Lakeside, plays offensive tackle for the school and is expected to start this season after playing in all 11 games the previous year - playing through a shoulder injury for most of the season.

Dickerson, who joined the team in 1998, also had 38 total stops in 2000 and 14 tackles in 1999.

Though both players are the only Columbia County natives on the cover, they are not the only local players on the team. Robert Fuqua, from Augusta Christian, is projected to be a third string left guard for the team. He redshirted in 2001.
