Golf Tournament
The third annual Steven W. Patch Memorial Golf Tournament will be Aug. 17 at Forest Hills Golf Club. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a putting contest at 9 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $300 per team - or $75 per individual player - and includes lunch. All proceeds benefit the Steven W. Patch Scholarship for students with cancer at Augusta State University. Homecoming Day
The Bethesda Baptist Church will observe its annual Homecoming Day at 11 a.m. Sunday with the Rev. Ken Walker serving as guest speaker.T here'll be dinner at the church after the service. The southern gospel group Pete Bridges and Rapture Ready will perform at 1:45 p.m. The Rev. Walker also will be the featured speaker for the church's night service. The church will have nightly services at 7 beginning Monday and concluding Wednesday.
School council meeting
Harlem Middle School will hold a School Council meeting at 6 p.m. today in the school's media center. The purpose of the meeting will be to adopt bylaws and a Code of Ethics, elect a vice chairperson and a secretary and establish a yearly calendar for meeting times.
Libraries closed
Public libraries in Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Lincoln, Richmond and Warren counties will be closed Aug. 7, to enable their staffs to attend a one-day training program sponsored by the East Central Georgia Regional Library system. Book return boxes will remain open, and the libraries will resume normal hoursAug. 8.
Pre-school registration
Martinez United Methodist Pre-school will hold its fall registration week from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Monday and running through Aug. 8. Classes are available in Pre-school (2-4 years old) and Mother's Day Out for ages 12 months to 3 years. For more information, call 860-3141.
Homeschool Fair
Homeschool for Y.O.U. Association Inc., is sponsoring a Homeschool Fun Fair and Book Sale at St. Mark United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday.The event will feature a used-book sale, new curriculum and educational products, registration for Art Factory and Homeschool physical education fall classes, free health screenings by volunteers from the Medical College of Georgia, exhibits by local fire departments and balloon animals for the children.
Admission is $3 per person or $5 per family. Lunch and snacks will be available at an extra charge. Used books must be submitted between noon and 5 p.m. Friday. For information on submitting books or vendor spaces, call 736-2976.
