Telephone book recycling
Telephone book recycling containers have been placed at the following locations in Columbia County: Savannah Rapids Pavilion, Evans to Lock Road, Evans, Parking lot of North Wing of the Evans Government Complex, The Water Works Parking lot near exit sign on 4235 Evans to Lock Road, Columbia County Landfill, 590 Baker Place Road, Grovetown, Roads & Bridges Parking lot on 2257 County Camp Road, Appling, and the Grovetown and Harlem city halls.
Steel Magnolias
Stage III, Ltd., Columbia County's Community Theater, will present Steel Magnolias. The dinner theater runs from Thursday, August 22, to Saturday, August 24. A Sunday matinee will also be presented August 25 at 3 p.m. All performances will be held at the Augusta Jewish Community Center off Fury's Ferry Road in Evans. Libraries closed
All public libraries in Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Lincoln, Richmond, and Warren counties will be closed Wednesday, August 7, to enable the staff to attend a one-day training program sponsored by the East Central Georgia Regional Library system. Book return boxes will remain open August 7 and the libraries will resume normal hours on Thursday, August 8.
Pre-school registration
Martinez United Methodist Pre-school will hold its fall registration week Monday, August 5 through Thursday, August 8, from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes are available in Pre-school (2, 3, and 4 years old) and Mother's Day Out for 12 months to 3 years. Pianist plays
Pianist Helen Beedle will be playing "Salon and Concert Music of the 1860's" at the Appleby Branch Library Tuesday, July 30 at 8 p.m. She plays such favorites as "Listen to the Mockingbird" and "Beautiful Dreamer." This is the final concert of the " Evenings in the Appleby Garden" series this season. Guests are invited to bring their chairs or blanket.
Adult education
An adult education advisory committee for Columbia County will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in Marvin United Methodist Church's Family Life Center. The church is located at the corner of Wheeler and Belair Road.
Homecoming Day
The Bethesda Baptist Church will observe its annual Homecoming Day on Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. with guest speaker, the Rev. Ken Walker. Following the service, there'll be dinner on the ground. At 1:45 p.m., the southern gospel group Pete Bridges and Rapture Ready will sing. The Rev. Walker will also be the featured speaker for the church's night service. The church will also have nightly services beginning at 7 p.m. from Aug. 5 until Aug. 7.
