Three officers from two Columbia County law enforcement agencies were disciplined recently - including one who was fired from his job - in unrelated incidents.
Thursday, Columbia County Sheriff's Deputy James Champion was let go for conduct unbecoming of an officer, Capt. Steve Morris said.
Capt. Morris said because Mr. Champion has 10 days to appeal the firing, no further information about the incident could be released. Mr. Champion has been with the department for four years.
Earlier last week Deputy Leslie Himebaugh was put on paid administrative leave for making harassing phone calls. The D.A.R.E. officer and three-year veteran turned herself in on the charges Wednesday and was released on $1,050 bond. She will remain on leave until an internal affairs investigation is complete, said Capt. Morris.
Also Wednesday, Grovetown Public Safety Officer Wendy Wallace resigned amid accusations she gave three young girls a bottle of Smirnoff Ice to share during a Memorial Day pool party, said Capt. Garry Owens. One of the girls was her 13-year-old daughter.
