Seniors get free legal service
Georgia Legal Services Program staff will be in Columbia County June 19 to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help.
The GLSP does not assist with criminal issues and offers its assistance on a first-come, first-served basis. A staff member of GLSP will meet with seniors from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., June 19 at the Columbia County Senior Center, 5913 Euchee Creek Drive, Grovetown.

Church plans summer program
The Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church will sponsor a Summer Enrichment Program for children June 3 to June 28. The program, for children ages 4 to 14, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with early drop off available beginning at 7 a.m. and late pickup at 5 p.m.
Activities will include Bible study, writing, math, science and Christian values. The cost if $50 per week. The church is at 703 Furys Ferry Road, Evans.

The Waynesboro Deliverance Evangelistic Church will be a site for the Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Church plans inspirational lunch program
First Baptist Church of Evans will host its monthly inspiration and lunch program, Time Out, at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, June 20.
The cost is $5 for lunch.

Revival scheduled
White Rock Baptist Church in Lincolnton will host its annual spring revival at 7:30 p.m. June 10 through June 14.
The Rev. Seymore Harrison, pastor of Daniel Grove Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Ga., will be the guest minister.
Lifestyle meeting planned
Health Yourself, a program for people seeking a healthy lifestyle, will be held on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church on North Belair Road.
The one-hour meetings will be held from June 11 to Aug. 20.
The cost of the 10-week program will be $15, which includes a handbook, instruction, handouts, newsletters, supermarket tour and product testing.
Child care will be available.

Taste of Life program scheduled
A Taste of Life, a program to help people lose weight and live healthier, will be offered at Wesley United Methodist Church on North Belair Road on Mondays beginning June 10 and lasting until Sept. 16.
The one-hour meetings will begin at 10 a.m.
The cost for the program is $25, which includes Bible study, meal plan guide, instruction, handouts and newsletters.
Child care will be available.

Regional EPD seminar planned
The Columbia County Local Emergency Planning Committee will host a regional Clean Air Amendments Compliance Seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 19 at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion.
Lunch will be provided, and there is not cost to participants.
The seminar is open to all regional water facilities, which will be inspected by EPD during the summer to assure that all compliance issues are in place. The presenters for the seminar will be the same people who will inspect the compliance programs at the water facilities.
The seminar is sponsored by the EPD.
Representatives of water treatment facilities should register before May 15.

Group is accepting grant applications
Columbia County Arts Inc. is accepting grant applications until June 15.
The grants are restricted to charitable arts groups which are members of CCA and located in Columbia County.

Girls camp planned
Registration is now being accepted for summer camp for girls currently in K-5 through high school.
Camp will include swimming, skating, bowling, a trip to Funsville Amusement Park and other sites.
The program is sponsored by Girls Incorporated of CSRA.
The nine-week camp will cost $350 plus an annual registration fee of $35.
Lunch, two snacks, a T-shirt and all field trips are included in the cost. Swim lessons will be available at an additional cost.

Arts camp scheduled
The 21st annual Collage: Creative Arts Camp will be held June 17-28 at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church.
The camp, sponsored by the Friends of the Augusta Symphony, is for children entering kindergarten through fifth grade in the fall.
A faculty of local arts professionals will instruct the pupils in various musical instruments, art, movement, drama, chorus, puppetry, pottery, weaving, storytelling, and creative writing.
The camp will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.
Tuition will be $100 per week.

Water Safety
Red Cross of Augusta will be offering Water Safety Instructor training at the Family Y on Wheeler Road. Participants must be at least 17 years of age and pass a swimming test. There class will be offered at seven different times. The cost for the class is $80. For class times call 724-8483.
House numbers encouraged
The Columbia County Planning and Development office is encouraging residents to ensure that their homes have their street address numbers plainly visible from the street so that emergency personnel can find the correct address.
House numbers should be at least 3 inches tall, mounted on a mailbox, be visible from both directions of the road and should not be hidden by weeds or flowers.

Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant set
The 63rd Miss Georgia Forestry State Scholarship Pageant will be held June 14-15 in Tifton.
The pageant is open to any young woman in Georgia and accepts one contestant per county and one contestant from each college in each age division.
The pageant is a nonprofit scholarship program that offers educational opportunities while promoting forestry in Georgia. It gives over $60,000 in cash and scholarships to the queens and runner-ups.
The age divisions are Tiny Miss ages 3 to 6; Junior Miss ages 7 to 12; Teen Miss ages 13 to 16; and Miss age 17 to 23.

The National Kidney Foundation of Georgia's is seeking donations of old vehicles to be sold as a fund-raiser.

Volunteers needed
The Court Appointed Special Advocate Program is looking for volunteers age 21 and older to help advocate for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system.
Volunteers work alongside the Department of Family and Children Services and other agencies to protect children who have been placed in foster care. Volunteers need no experience and will be provided specialized training. For more information, call 737-4631.
Fencing classes offered
The Augusta Fencers Club is now offering two new classes in beginning foil. The first - a youth class for those 11 to 14 - meets from 6-7 p.m. Fridays. Historical donations needed
The City of Grovetown Museum Board of Directors is seeking donations of military memorabilia with ties to Fort (Camp) Gordon for a special display depicting the historical relationship between the fort and Grovetown.
