Appling woman receives degree
Courtney Renee Manuel has received a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education from Augusta State University.
She is a 1998 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools and lives in Appling.
Foreign language students honored
Five Columbia County students have been named Outstanding Foreign Language Students at their respective high schools by the Foreign Language Alliance for International Rapport.
The winners are Jean Manuel Lopez, Augusta Christian; Caroline R. Osborne, Augusta Preparatory School; Kunal Sharma, Evans High School; Carrie Crawford, Greenbrier High School; and Catherine Renee Sanders, Lakeside High School.
Evans High grad makes president's list at Georgia Tech
Jonathan R. Kent, a 1997 graduate of Evans High School, was placed on the president's list for the spring semester at Georgia Tech.
He earned a 4.0 for the semester.
He is majoring in electrical engineering and is the son of Carol Askew of Harlem and William Kent of Sandersville.
Evans woman inducted into honor society
Rebecca E. Brown, a 2001 graduate of Evans High School, has been inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, a national freshman honor society at Valdosta State University.
She maintained a 4.0 grade point average during her freshman year.
She is the daughter of Dennis and Shelia Brown of Evans.
Evans man earns degree
Brantley Wheatley, a 1999 graduate of Greenbrier High School, has received a degree of Applied Science in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University, Charleston, S.C.
He is the son of Douglas and Brenda Wheatley of Evans.
Marine completes basic training
Marine Corps Pfc. Shaun R. Alderman, a 2001 graduate of Appling County High School, has completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
He is the son of Susie King, Baxley, and Johnny Simpson, Martinez.
Furman names local scholars
Furman University has named eight Columbia County high school juniors as 2002 Furman Scholars.
The Augusta Prep students winning the honors are Ashwin E. Rajendra, Martinez; and Anne M. Watson, Evans.
Winners from Evans High School are Robert J. Beaulieu, Evans; and Rajib Bhattacharjea, Evans.
Lakeside High School winners are Anju M. Mammen, Martinez; Aditya Mandawat, Martinez; Kelly L. Newman, Martinez; and David C. Tian, Evans.
Evans woman graduates from Young Harris
Elizabeth Ann Lobello received an Associate of Science in Business degree with high honors from Young Harris College on May 4.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Lobello of Evans.
Bel Air Elementary School recently celebrated honors night for fourth and fifth grade students. Several special awards were given during the ceremony.

Aurora Lynn Campbell Hubbard, of Martinez, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Wesleyan University on May 11. She received the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Management. She has enrolled for the fall term at Troy State University to pursue her Masters Degree.
