Memorial Day celebration

Columbia County will present the second annual Red, White and Blue Veterans Celebration on Saturday, May 25, at Doctors Hospital Field behind the Evans Kroger from 6 to 9 p.m.

Schools councils to meet

The Evans Elementary School Council will meet at 2 p.m. Monday in the school's media center. The meeting will replace the regularly scheduled meeting that had been scheduled for May 6.

Seniors to participate

Brandon Wilde will be the local host site for the ninth annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 29.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m., participants will join an estimated 150,000 seniors at 1,500 sites across the nation as they walk, dance, play and learn their way to better fitness and health.

Landfill to close

Columbia County's Baker Place Road Landfill will be closedMay 25 in recognition of Memorial Day.

The landfill will reopen 6 a.m. May 27.

Registration set for Mother's Day Out

The Mother's Day Out program at West Acres Baptist Church is taking registration for the fall and summer programs.

The program is for children 18 months to 5 years old. All programs are from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The fall classes are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and the summer program will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Lewis Memorial prepares mothers program

Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church is accepting registration for its Mother's Morning Out summer program. The program will be from May 28 to June 20.

Applications for homestead exemption accepted

The deadline for filing for homestead exemptions in Columbia County is June 1. Applications for the exemptions are being taken in the Appling office of the Columbia County Tax Commissioner at 1959 Appling-Harlem Highway, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Book to be discussed

Holy Hormones, a book by Dr. Ronald Eaker, will be discussed during the meeting of the Christian Ladies Fellowship of First Baptist Church of Evans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 31.

The book's subject is based on Biblical principals of menopause and women's health. The cost is $15 per person, which includes the cost of dinner.
