New Post Office Dedicated

Robert Stephens Jr., U.S. Congressman will be in town Sunday to formally dedicate the recently constructed Grovetown Post Office.

Stephens will speak at dedication ceremonies in the Grovetown Methodist Church at 4:30 p.m.

Postal service from the new brick building have been provided since Feb. 13 when transfer was made from the white frame building which has since been turned into a restaurant.

Mr. Pierce Anderson is acting Post Master of the new building and is assisted by Mrs. Sara Ferguson and Mrs. Wadelle Anderson.

Increase in students

An estimated increase of 431 students is expected next school year according to information received from County Superintendent of Schools John Pierce Blanchard.

The 431 students represent a 10 percent increase over the number enrolled at the close of the school this May. The increase will result in 16 new teachers and four new 66 passenger buses, Mr. Blanchard said.

The expected increases are: Appling, 6; Evans, 86; Grovetown, 55; Harlem, 94 and Martinez 99.

Senior Class Dinner

The senior class of Evans High School is sponsoring a spaghetti super from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday in the school lunch room. The tickets will cost $1 for adults and 50 cents for children 10 and under.

The proceeds will o to help pay for the yearbook and graduation expenses. There will be a basketball game between the alumni and next year's basketball team at 7:30 p.m. in the school gym.

Phones in 2000

According to Mr. J. M. Williams, local Southern Bell Manager, there will be a phone for every person in the population by the year 2000.

For instance, in Harlem there are 1,224 phones and 1,500 people. By the year 2000, it is estimated there will be 351,000,000 people and 500,000,000 phones in the nation.

Mr. Williams said the phone of the future will be a "picture phone" that will let you see the person to whom you are talking. This service was demonstrated in April 20 at the World's Fair by Bell System.
