Destination 2020 meeting

One of the nine community meetings for the Leadership Augusta, Inc., program "Destination 2020" will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Columbia County Government Complex

The purpose of the meeting is to gather public input on what will metro Augusta look like and be like in the year 2020.

Time Out

First Baptist Church of Evans will host Time Out, a monthly "inspiration and lunch" gathering for all who live or work in Columbia County, at 11:50 a.m. Thursday.

The speaker will be Hank Flowers, the head of Pastoral Care at University Hospital.

The cost for lunch, which will feature fried chicken, is $5.

Reservations should be made by noon, today. Reservations can be made by calling the church office at 863-1228 or online at fbcevans@mindspring.com.

The church is located at the corner of Washington and Belair roads.

Schools councils to meet

The Evans Elementary School Council will meet at 2 p.m. Monday in the school's media center. The meeting will replace the regularly scheduled meeting which had been scheduled for May 6.

Also, Harlem Middle School will hold a parent meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the school auditorium. Parents will nominate and elect two parent representatives for the Harlem Middle School Council. Parents can be nominated and placed on the ballot before the meeting by calling school principal Geoffrey Schlichter at 556-5990.

Vacation Bible school planned

Grovetown United Methodist Church invites all children and teens from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade to join the annual vacation Bible school,from 6:15 -8:45 p.m., Sunday through May 23.

Participation is free.

Landfill to close

Columbia County's Baker Place Road Landfill will be closedMay 25 in recognition of Memorial Day.

The landfill will reopen 6 a.m. May 27.

Club to be reactivated

The Oliver Hardy Appreciation Club (The Berthmarks Tent) will be reactivated. The first meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the Harlem Library.

Puppet show scheduled

The Augusta Museum of History's May Family History Series will feature a historical puppet show Saturday.

Ben and Keeter's Puppets will tell Civil War stories. Shows will begin at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

The program is free to museum members. Nonmembers must pay regular museum admission fees.

Christian wrestling scheduled

Christian wrestlers from the Christian Wrestling Alliances will appear at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Family Christian Stores of Augusta, 204 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway.

Also appearing will be Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber from the video series, Veggie Tales.

There will also be free face painting for children from noon to 2 p.m.
