Editor:
Please allow me to comment on a recent letter by Dave Stewart of Grovetown, Harsh words for "changes with Grovetown Police.
As a retiree I read many periodicals, including The Chronicle, The Columbia County News-Times, The Spirit and The Signal, just to name a few.
As such, it is quite apparent that the readership is all different with diverse preferences, ambitions, desires and tastes. There is no one choice that is right for everyone, so it is foolish to question or criticize the choices of others.
I am not a representative of the city or the Department of Public Safety of Grovetown. I am a simple lay person who lives here like Stewart does. He is entitled to his opinion; therefore, I would like to submit mine for print as a rebuttal!
If my memory serves me correctly, he is the same individual that referred to the former Police Chief John Tomberlin as the Gestapo! And, it has been since 1994 - when the Gestapo first occupied the Grovetown Police Department - that the building sported nuclear-grade blast walls, and bullet- and grenade-proof glass. This is nothing new.
The American Indians have an expression that is very appropriate for Stewart: Dont criticize another person until youve walked a mile in their moccasins. Shame on Stewart. What is ironic is that if he found himself in desperate need, a fire, theft, or health emergency, guess what - it would be these same officers with excessive tonnage and whom are dumber than a bag of glass hammers that would expeditiously and willingly respond to his emergency and place their lives on the line for him. Please give that a thought!
There is a Fable from Saint Bonaventure (1217-1274) which is quoted from the Conference on the Gospel of John:
An Example from the Monkey: The higher it climbs, the more you see of its behind.
Please, Mr. Stewart, stay out of trees and off the water tower in Grovetown. The residents of Grovetown are most fortunate to have Chief Al Robinson who keeps the DPS together to protect and serve, even the likes of you!
