Cooling centers

Two cooling centers in Columbia County are open for residents who need to seek shelter from the heat. The centers will remain open through the end of September.

The centers are located at the Bessie Thomas Community Center, 5913 Euchee Creek Drive, Grovetown and Patriots Park, 5445 Columbia Road, Grovetown.

The Bessie Thomas Community Center will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will have ice water and a television.

The Patriots Park center will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will also have ice water and a TV.
