Students receive merit cerfificates

The Columbia County Board of Education recently presented certificates of merit to several students who have recently achieved academic and club-related honors.

Those recognized included:

* Brian Armstrong, first place Georgia State Middle School Math Tournament and first place state winner;

Amber Halvorson, participated in the Future Business Leaders of America state leadership competition, won fourth place at region competition in word processing;

Jessica Bates, participated in the Future Business Leaders of America state leadership competition, won 22nd place at state competition in math;

Mary Simpson, Jessica Bates, participated in the Future Business Leaders of America state leadership competition, won second place at state competition in word processing and first in the region;

LAKESIDE HIGH

* Brook Cadle, FCCLA Knowledge Bowl;

* Sarah Brandenburg, FCCLA Knowledge Bowl;

The FCCLA team won first place in the state competition and received $1,000 and a plaque;

* Siri Shetty, FBLA Chapter of the Year award and tenth place in business communications;
