School Council meeting

Harlem Middle School will hold a parent meeting at 6 p.m. May 16 in the school auditorium. Parents will nominate and elect two parent representatives for the Harlem Middle School Council. Parents can be nominated and placed on the ballot before the meeting by calling school principal Geoffrey Schlichter at 556-5990.

Evans High yard sale

The Evans High School Career/Technology Education Faculty and Advisory Board will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday in front of the school. Yard sale spaces will be available for $10 and $15.

Summer day camp

The Columbia County Recreation Department will offer a summer day camp at Patriots Park from May 27 through Aug. 2. There will be no camp the week of July 4.

The camp is open to children ages 6 to 12 on or before Sept. 1. It will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Children can be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m. and can be picked up as late as 6 p.m.

The cost is $75 per week. Registration continues through Friday. Activities will include arts and crafts, field trips, recreational games and outdoor activities. For more information, call 868-3458.

Music festival

The fourth annual Garden City Music Festival will be held Saturday at Riverwalk. The festival offers an eclectic blend of music, arts and crafts, a free children's area and diverse food. The event will have three stages featuring 23 regional bands.

Gates open at 11 a.m. Music starts at noon. The festival ends at 10 p.m. Tickets are available in advance for $6 at the Greater Augusta Arts Council at Sacred Heart Cultural Center and for $7 at the gate. Dance tryouts

Tryouts for the Augusta Dance Theatre will be held Saturday beginning at noon at the Ron Jones Academy of Ballet on Furys Ferry Road. The tryouts are open to dancers 10 years and older. Call 860-1852 for more information.

Rose Society

The Thomson Rose Society's annual rose show is Saturday at the Thomson Depot. Entries will be received from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and the show is open to the public from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Learn about Islam

The Islamic Center of Augusta is holding a day of seminars aimed at increase public awareness of Islam. The presentations begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and will finish at 5 p.m.

Food Drive

The 10th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive will take place Saturday. In addition to delivering mail, carriers will be picking up food for the hungry. To participate, residents should place nonperishable food by their mailbox. For those with PO Boxes, post offices will have donation barrels.
