Harsh words for 'changes' in Grovetown Police

What a difference a chief makes.

Recently I went to the Grovetown Department of Public Safety for some information. Dont ask my why; after all, Im not a crony or relative of the new chief, nor an illegal alien. Just say it was a lapse in judgment. I was saddened at the changes in the department.

The open, welcoming and professional layout of the place was gone. It had been replaced by nuclear-grade blast walls; bullet- and grenade-proof glass; and ugly, tacky Bulgarian police station surplus wallpaper. But I understand; its not about terrorism. This department needs to hide what theyre up to from public scrutiny. Its probably better for our health that we cant see what the chief and his gang are up to.

There was a group of officers behind the glass, or rather it seemed so, but on closer inspection it turned out to be two. The amount of excess tonnage the two of them could shed would easily make a third person. How nice, I thought, Were getting three officers for the price of two - until they opened their mouths. Then, I knew we were being cheated if they made one salary between them.

Ever meet that one cop whose belligerent attitude escalates good morning into a call of officer needs assistance? Double that. The two of them collectively were dumber than a bag of glass hammers; getting information from these two was harder than spot-welding Jell-O.

When I left in frustration, I had a Miss Cleo moment: I could see their future clearly. In the event their attitudes didnt lead them to become that one officer in 10 shot by their own gun, they would continue to balloon up until they couldnt fit through a standard 36-inch door.

Then, because no decent force would have them, they would have to go to the only place their arctic-temperature IQs and pissy attitudes would be acceptable: The Depart-ment of Motor Vehicles. Given their experience with this department, they could be in charge of giving licenses to illegal aliens.

What a difference a chief - or the lack of one - makes.
