Sure-Shot Basketball Camp
Dates have been announced for the 11th annual Sure-Shot Basketball Camp. The June 3-7 camp will be held at Lakeside Middle School, and is for boys entering grades 6-9. The June 10-14 camp will be held at Riverside Middle School, and also is for boys grades 6-9. The cost for each of those camps is $75. Camps for boys and girls entering grades 2-5 will be held at Lakeside Middle on June 10-14 and July 22.26, with each costing $70. For more information call Tom Weidenaar or Dave Pitock at 855-6900.
GAS Masters win
Tom Northcutt set three state records as he and Greater Augusta Swimming teammate George Patton won high-point awards at the North Carolina Masters State Swimming Championships in Raleigh.
Northcutt, swimming in the 35-39 age group, set Georgia records in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.38), 400-yard individual medley (4:19.06), and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.97). He also won the 50-yard backstroke (26.08), the 50- and 100-yard breatstroke events (28.60/1:01.56), and the 100-yard individual medley (55.36). He placed second in the 50- and 100-yard butterfly (24.92/55.51).
Patton, swimming in the 40-44 age group, won the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyles (23.87)/53.41/1:59.26), the 50-yard butterfly (25.62), and the 100- and 200-yard individual medleys (58.64/2:10.49), while finishing third in the 50-yard backstroke (31.55).
Volleyball camp
The second annual Greenbrier Volleyball Camp will be held July 23-26 at Greenbrier High School. The camp is for girls in grades 6-9, and is limited to the first 30 players to sign up. Daily camp times are from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. The cost is $50, which includes a T-shirt. For more information call Greenbrier volleyball coach Debbie Born at 650-6043, ext. 220.
Indoor soccer and summer basketball
The Columbia County Recreation Department's indoor soccer season starts May 20-June 13, and features age divisions for Under 8s and Under 10s. The summer basketball season starts June 17-July 25, and is for ages 10-15 (age control date is Aug. 1, 2002). Registration will be held through May 10 at Patriots Park administrative offices, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All games will be played at Patriots Park, with games on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bass tournament
An Open-Team Bass Tournament, hosted by the Clark Hill Committee to benefit Easter Seals, will be held Saturday, May 11 at Clarks Hill (Thurmond) Lake. A boat flight drawing will be held on May 9. First-place winners will receive $7,500. For entry forms call 667-9695.
