Mint should make Masters coin

Editor:

The Masters is an international, as well as a national, major sporting event that draws tens of thousands of people from all over the world annually to our community.

I need not point out the positive side of the Red Carpet Tour nor the huge amount of foreign investments made locally in both South Carolina and Georgia that came about as a direct result of these efforts.

Therefore, I urge both The Augusta Chronicle and The Columbia County News-Times to become advocates for a commemorative coin celebrating the Master Golf Tournament. The U.S. Mint is renown for producing high-quality coins and are in great demand by collectors and novices alike. It is also a piece of Americana for golfers and non-golfers. As an avid coin collector, I am appalled that millions of people worldwide cannot hold a piece of history in their hand. I cannot think of a more worthy coin to be minted at this time. I firmly believe this coin could easily become one of the most sought after coins ever produced by the U.S. Mint.

Per the U.S. Mint customer service office, coins are minted through the demands of Congress. Thus, we need to get all members of Congress, and especially those from Georgia and South Carolina, to push for this coin. Newspapers have a powerful voice for the good so I request your assistance in this project.
