Swimming results

Several Columbia County athletes recorded high finishes for the Greater Augusta Swimming team during the Georgia Swimming Southeast Divisional Championships held at Chatham County Aquatic Center in Savannah.

11-12 girls: Katie Croft - second, 50-yard backstroke (32.27); second, 100 backstroke; third, 100 individual medley (1:12.94).

11-12 boys: Matt Russell - third, 100-yard breastroke (1:25.24).

Senior girls: Sarah Gerstein - third, 100-yard freestyle (55.50); third, 500 freestyle (5:41.38).

Senior boys: Ryan Gober (overall high-point scorer for his age group) - third, 200-yard freestyle (1:46.70); second, 500 freestyle (4:45.68); second, 1000 freestyle (9:57.49); third, 100 breaststroke (1:01.85); first, 200 butterfly (1:55.01); third, 200 individual medley (1:59.00); second, 400 individual medley (4:19.17).

Tim Murray - third, 200-yard backstroke (1:58.80).

Softball tournaments

A National Softball Association Youth Qualifying tournament will be held April 13-14 in Cookeville, Tenn. for the 10U, 12U and 14U age divisions. For more information contact Mark Lovrekovic at 931-528-6711 or 931-260-9115.

NSA Men's A, B, C, D and E, along with Women's C, D and E qualifying tournaments will be held April 19-21 in Chattanooga. Contact Tom or Travis at 423-855-5775.

NSA Black American Men's 10 home run and four home run tournaments are scheduled for April 19-21 in Chattanooga. Contact Kenneth Simpson at 423-821-9997.

NSA Men's C, D, and E, and Co-Ed qualifiers will be played April 20-21 in Cookeville, Tenn. Contact Connie Jennette at 615-445-3618.

The "Fools For Fastpitch" tournament will be held April 26-28 at Camp Jordan in Chattanooga, Tenn. Age groups include 6-Under, 8-U, 10-U, 12-U and 14-U. There is a six-game guarantee for all teams, weather permitting. Cost is $200. Balls are furnished, and teams must have proof of insurance. Basketball clinic

A basketball shooting clinic is scheduled for June 7-8 at Augusta Preparatory Day School's Boardman Gymnasium. World-class shooting coach Tom Nordland will conduct the clinic, which is open to boys and girls sixth grade or older. The cost is $50 per player, or $65, which includes the "Swish" shooting video. The Friday and Saturday clinic features four sessions (9 a.m. tp 1 p.m., and 2-6 p.m. each day). Coaches and parents are welcomed to observe. AAU basketball

The Augusta Pride girls AAU program is currently seeking basketball players in the following age divisions: 17-and-under; 16-and-under; 15-and-under; and, 14-and-under. The Pride teams will compete in the Georgia Games, which will be held locally in July. Basketball camp

The first annual Fastbreak Girls Basketball Camp will be conducted June 24-28 at Augusta Preparatory Day School's Boardman Gymnasium. The camp is for players in grades five through eight (ages nine through 14), and the cost is $150 for the week. Each camper will receive a T-shirt, camp notebook, new basketball and a daily lunch. The camp schedule includes: fundamentals; stretching and ball-handling; league play; contests; films and videotapes; and, awards. Karate Classes

Karate classes will be held at Patriots Park Gymnasium on Mondays and Thursdays (5-6 p.m.) and Tuesdays and Wednesdays (6-7 p.m.). Fees are $25 a month for one child, $40 a month for two children and $50 for three. Class instructor is Truett Spivey, a second-degree black belt. Aerobics

Starting April 1, Aerobics classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, from 6-7 p.m., at Patriots Park Gymnasium. Each class will consist of a warm-up, then 45 minutes workouts combining floor and step aerobics. The class is for all fitness levels. The cost is $20 a month or $3 per class. Instructors are Ammie Campbell and Sally Dexter. For more information call the gym at 868-3453.
