School meeting rescheduled
The Riverside Middle School Council's April meeting has been changed to April 15. The meeting will begin at 7 a.m. in the conference room at the school. The public is invited.
Reserve deputy training
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office will hold a night reserve deputy training academy at the training facility in Appling.
Participants will become certified peace officers through the CSRA Law Enforcement Training Center and work as volunteer deputies for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. There is a $2,500 fee to attend the academy, and participants must be at least 18 with no prior criminal record.
Anyone interested in the program must take the academy entrance exam at the CSRA Law Enforcement Training Center, 2092 Greenland Road, Augusta, before April 12. For more information, contact the CSRA Law Enforcement Center at 592-1518 or the Columbia County Sheriff's Office at 541-3970.
Wheelchair fencing program planned
A wheelchair fencing program will be offered Tuesday evenings by the Augusta Fencers Club.
The introductory class is designed for paraplegic adults (ages 14 and older). The classes will meet from 8 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks at the wheelchair fencing facilities on Ninth Street between Broad and Reynolds streets.
The lessons, which will begin April 16, will cover the sabre, epee and foil.
Cost for the classes is $50 per month. All gear is provided.

House numbers encouraged
The Columbia County Planning and Development office is encouraging residents to ensure that their homes have their street address numbers plainly visible from the street so that emergency personnel can find the correct address.
House numbers should be at least 3 inches tall, mounted on a mailbox, be visible from both directions of the road and should not be hidden by weeds or flowers.

Church plans block party
Meadowbrook Baptist Church will hold a community block party beginning at 11 a.m. on April 20.
Food, games, music and more will be free.
