Class wins contest

Mrs. Schwartzman's first grade class at Stevens Creek Elementary School won first place in a contest supporting the school's foreign language and PE programs. The pupils won an ice cream party.

During February, the school sponsored a campaign to collect labels from Campbell and Tyson products. Mrs. Schwartzman's class won by collecting 638 labels.

The ice cream was provided by the school's PTO.

Evans JROTC wins championship

The Evans High JROTC Knight drill team won the 2002 Georgia State Army JROTC championship for the third time in the last six years.

Led by seniors Terrell White, Julian Fontinette and Luke Hall, the Knights took first place in the standard drill and second place in the exhibition drill, which gave them first place in the overall competition.

Lady Knights drill team captain Naisha White won second place in the individual exhibition category.

The two drill teams will compete in the national championships to be held at Daytona Beach, Fla. May 3-4.

Miss Lakeside

Stephanie Carol Mulherin was crowned Miss Lakeside 2002 on March 9 at the Miss Lakeside Pageant. Stephanie is the daughter of Frank and Carol Mulherin. First runner up was Carol Lorine Nobles and the second runner up was Tishan Nikco Turknett. Stephanie was awarded a $500 scholarship, which she plans to use at Mercer University in the fall.

Science Fair Star

Leigh Anne Beaudreau, a senior at Augusta Christian School, will travel to Louisville, Ky., in May to participate in the 53rd Annual Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. She will be accompanied by Marcheta Sherer, science department head at Augusta Christian. Leigh Anne is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gary Beaudreau of Evans.

Conference

Three Evans High School FCCLA members, Debbie Baldwin, Brienne Lee, and Karen Blalock, joined other students from across the region to participate in "A Positive Lifestyle for Ultimate Success" leadership training meeting. The conference was held at the state FFA-FHA Camp in Covington, Ga. Three advisers, Laotha Carswell, Martha McGough, and Gail Sims, also attended.
