Lakeside dominates ASU math competition

Two Lakeside High School math teams dominated Augusta State's 28th Annual Math Contest.

While they didn't walk away with the first place trophy - that honor went to South Aiken High - they did win second and third place. Fourth place went to Aiken High.

The Lakeside High students were among 135 that competed Friday, March 15. Twenty-three high schools in Georgia and 11 schools in South Carolina participated.

Brandon Kearse from Aiken High School and Matt Clements from South Aiken High School took the first and second place individual honors, said Sankar Sethuraman, associate professor of mathematics and computer science and contest coordinator.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Augusta State sponsored the contest, which was started in 1974 by department chairman Dr. Freddy Maynard.
