No insult in Spanish effort, which gets praise
I disagree with the criticism by Dr. Paula Rodriguez regarding the Spanish translations on articles in The Columbia County News-Times (letter, March 17, Spanish effort "insult to Hispanic community).

Immigrants should learn to speak English
I thought maestro de ano was a real knee-slapper! I certainly agree with Dr. Paula Rodriguez that you should cease insulting the Spanish speakers of the area. After all, how must they feel to have to live and/or work in Mar-ti-NEZ!

Practices still far from perfect
There are some opinions Id planned to keep to myself until I was about 95 and really didnt give a tinkers tutu what anybody thought of me. But Im afraid this one just wont wait. It nags at me almost every time I take my mother in to one of her many doctors visits, or hear the horror stories of friends and other relatives.

A clean start for Lakeside High
Lakeside High School certainly had its share of troubles lately. The minor scandal involving the schools principal and his hiring of an athletic director with a checkered past has kept students, faculty and parents distracted for much of the year, and hurt feelings are often slow to heal.

Our foreign language
Years ago, while living in Germany and attempting to learn the host language, I joined a German-American conversation class to practice my new craft. But the learning process went both ways. If we noticed an error in the way one of us spoke the language of the other, we were encouraged to call attention to the mistake and make the correction.
