County officials should ponder tax for fire fees

I have just had a volunteer from the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department call at my home for donations.

I explained that I pay my dues each year and that I have paid my part. Now the fact that they are going house to house collecting means that there are not enough funds for their needs. It also tells me that there are still people not paying their dues. Those of us who pay and those who do not pay are equally in danger.

Is it a possibility for the fire dues to be added to county taxes, and then everyone would pay and not just a small percentage of us?

Do we have any alternative but to collect from everyone if we are to be protected from fire in the county?

This problem does need to be addressed by the County Commission.
